Rent trends in Germany have shown a clear upward trajectory in recent years. Rents have risen sharply, particularly in popular major cities and metropolitan areas, underscoring the high level of interest in the housing market.
The ongoing influx of people into these regions and the rising demand for housing have had a significant impact on rent trends. Despite various measures to curb rent increases, rents have continued to rise in many places. In rural and less developed areas, however, rent trends have remained largely stable.
Trend in the price per square meter
The average price per square meter has risen by about 22% for apartments and 13% for houses over the past few years (2020–2023). The trend continues to be upward, though not as sharply as in recent years. This is still due to the trend of people moving to major cities and metropolitan areas.
